The Benchmark of Natural Elegance
Marcel Lapierre was a pioneer of the "non-interventionist" style, and his family continues that legacy with breathtaking precision. The 2023 "Vieilles Vignes" is a masterclass in purity. It captures the "morgonner" character—a specific savory, earthy evolution that happens to the best wines of this cru—while maintaining the exuberant, joyful fruit that makes Gamay so beloved. This is not just Beaujolais; this is fine wine that rivals the great Burgundies of the north.
Appearance - Deep, translucent ruby with violet highlights.
Nose - A heady and intoxicating perfume of wild strawberries, peonies, and ripe raspberries, followed by sophisticated notes of licorice, sweet spice, and a distinct "granitic" mineral smoke.
Palate - Silky and medium-bodied. The old vines provide a remarkable density of fruit, balanced by a vibrant, energetic acidity. The finish is long and succulent, with extremely fine-grained tannins that feel like crushed velvet.
Pairings - Hon Maguro Kama, Iberico Pork, Unagi, Teriyaki Chicken.
Service - Serve slightly chilled at 13–15°C. This keeps the fruit "crunchy" and the acidity bright.
