The Modern Heritage of Stellenbosch
Boschkloof is a standout estate in South Africa’s prestigious Stellenbosch region, specifically within the cooler, granite-rich Polkadraai Hills. This Chardonnay represents a contemporary shift in South African winemaking. Moving away from heavy, buttery styles toward a profile defined by crystalline purity and vibrant energy. By utilizing natural fermentation and careful aging in French oak (only a small portion of which is new), Boschkloof produces a wine that beautifully bridges the gap between the sun-drenched fruit of the New World and the stony, acid-driven elegance of Burgundy.
Appearance - A brilliant, pale straw yellow with shimmering lemon-green highlights.
Nose - A fresh and sophisticated bouquet. Intense aromas of lime zest, white peach, and orange blossom are elegantly layered with subtle notes of roasted hazelnuts, sea spray, and a faint, savory hint of oatmeal from extended lees contact.
Palate - Medium-bodied with a remarkable tension and a silky, textured mouthfeel. The palate is led by a core of bright citrus and green apple fruit, underscored by a clean, mineral acidity that provides incredible lift. It finishes with impressive length, leaving a lingering impression of toasted brioche and a mouth-watering, saline persistence.
Pairings - Gindara Saikyo Yaki, Teppan Live Boston Lobster, Aburi Engawa, Iberico Pork with Yuzu, Chicken Teriyaki.
Service - Serve at 10–12°C. To experience the full spectrum of its aromatic complexity, avoid serving this wine too cold. Giving it 15 to 20 minutes of air in the glass allows the subtle oak integration and stone fruit layers to fully emerge and harmonize.
