The Vibrant Energy of Hawke's Bay
Born from the sun-drenched Woodthorpe Terraces in the Dartmoor Valley of New Zealand's Hawke's Bay, the 2024 Te Mata Estate Pinot Noir perfectly balances approachability with serious structure. While Pinot Noir isn't always the first grape people associate with Hawke's Bay, Te Mata's meticulous winemaking and reliance on continuous cool, westerly inland winds give this wine a remarkably fresh, energetic profile. It is a wonderfully vibrant and fruit-forward expression that showcases pure varietal character with elegant complexity.
Appearance - Luminous red cherry hue with a distinct garnet edge.
Nose - An immediate and captivating bouquet. Rich, layered aromas of black cherry, redcurrant, and prune are woven with fragrant notes of cinnamon, dried herbs, and a gentle floral lift.
Palate - Soft, generous, and beautifully energetic on the palate. A succulent core of dark plum and tart cherry delivers pure fruit weight, while savory fine-grained tannins frame a silky-smooth texture. It finishes with impressive persistence, balancing a snap of acidity with a touch of licorice and a trace of smoke.
Pairings - Grilled Duck Breast, Teppan Pork Jowl with Yuzu Kosho, Assorted Wild Mushroom Foil Yaki, Iberico Pork Secreto, Beef Teriyaki.
Service - Serve at 16–17°C. This supple and refreshing Pinot Noir benefits from being served just slightly cool to maximize the brightness of its pure red fruit profile. It is delicious and expressive upon release, but giving it 15 to 20 minutes to open in the glass will let the subtle savory spice and floral complexity fully emerge.
